Listings embed

February 5th 2020

In this tutorial you’ll learn how to generate a shortcode that will allow you to display listings in a grid format wherever the shortcode is placed. Use the shortcode to create targeted landing pages, showcase your featured listings, display the latest listings from the MLS in a blog post, etc… The possibilities are endless.

In the example below I’ll filter the results with some rules so that only residential listings with 2 bedrooms in Moscow, Idaho are displayed. You can add as many rules as you’d like, however I’ll keep it simple here.

  1. Navigate to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Navigate to ‘Shortcodes’ under ‘Wovax’.
  3. Click ‘Add New’.
  4. Select ‘Listings Embed’ for the shortcode type.
  5. Give your shortcode a descriptive title. The title is only needed for you to identify the shortcode later, the title will not displayed on your website.
  6. Click the ‘Save’ button.
  7. Click the ‘View Options’ tab.
  8. Check the Grid View checkbox.
  9. Enter the number of listings to display wherever the shortcode is placed.
  10. Check or uncheck pagination. If checked, the shortcode will display the ‘next page/previous page’ links at the bottom of the listings.
  11. Click the ‘Save Changes’ button.
  12. Click the ‘Feeds’ tab.
  13. Select the feeds you’d like to include in your shortcode.
  14. Click the ‘Save Changes’ button.
  15. Click the ‘Rules’ tab.
  16. Now you need to set some rules, so that you don’t include every listing from the feed. If you would like to include all listings from the selected feeds in step 14, then don’t add any rules.
  17. Select ‘Bedrooms’ from the ‘Field’ dropdown.
  18. Select ‘Equals’ from the ‘Rule Type’ dropdown.
  19. Enter the number 2 in the ‘Rule Value’ input.
  20. Click the ‘Add Rule’ button.
  21. Select ‘City’ from the ‘Field’ dropdown.
  22. Select ‘Equals’ from the ‘Rule Type’ dropdown.
  23. Enter the Moscow in the ‘Rule Value’ input.
  24. Click the ‘Add Rule’ button.
  25. Copy your shortcode from the top of the page.
  26. Paste your shortcode into a WordPress page of your choosing and save the page.
